Domain Research
Tool is capable of scanning faster than any other domain tool for serveral
reasons. First, it can use multiple "threads" or Internet connections
to perform multiple queries at the same time. Second, it can cache scan results
on the D.R.T. server for later use by other users. Caching results ensures
that a particular domain only needs to be scanned once and never again (within
a certain time frame) resulting in less queries and quicker results (up to
120 times faster!).
The D.R.T. Turbo
mode / caching approach is currently pending patent approval.
When Turbo Mode
is enabled (default), D.R.T. attempts to pull search engine and Overture data
directly from the D.R.T. server fifty domains at a time. When this information
is avaiable D.R.T. doesn't bother querying the search engines and simply uses
the turbo data. When no data is available for the specified domains D.R.T.
performs the queries normally, one search engine at a time.
The data on the
D.R.T. Turbo server is uploaded there by D.R.T. users who have the Turbo feature
turned on (General Settings window). Scan results are uploaded fifty domains
at a time every fifty domains or as soon as the scan is completed. These uploads
are simple HTTP queries and not FTP connections. An average upload takes about
.25 seconds (1/4th of a second) so it does not use up a lot of bandwidth or
resources.
The Turbo feature
is an important addition to D.R.T. because it allows for:
- Extremely
fast scan speeds. Up to 50 domains per second.
- Lower probability
of ban, since the only source being queried is the D.R.T. server
- No need
for proxy servers, since all queries are sent to D.R.T. first.
It's important
to note that domains in the Watch List never get uploaded to the Turbo servers,
even if the Turbo Mode is turned on. However, they can be updated by receiving
data from the Turbo servers.
Since some users
may consider the Turbo mode a privacy concern, it can be toggled easily from
the "General Settings" window.
The information
stored in the Turbo server includes several million domains and is not analyzed,
checked or looked at by a human being. It is only stored for the purpose of
being cached and used by other users during D.R.T. scan sessions.
